  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Breaking News: Terror Attack at Los Angeles Shul

Los Angeles news sites have just reported that a gunman shot two men near a North Hollywood beis knesset. A suspect in the shooting has been arrested.

At 6:20 A.M. this morning, a gunman approached the Adat Yeshurun Valley Sephardic beis knesset, in the 12000 block of Sylvan Street, and shot two people. Both victims were Jewish men, and both were shot in the lower extremities as they were about to enter the beis knesses for the morning prayer service.

The victims of the shooting reportedly arrived at the beit knesset in separate vehicles, and had parked in the underground parking lot when the gunman approached them. The gunman, described by the victims as a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, shot at the two men, one after the other. The gun reportedly jammed at first, then fired, injuring both men. Immediately after shooting them, the gunman fled the scene.

Police officials, speaking on anonymity, said they do not believe the motive for the shooting was robbery, and are investigating the incident as a hate crime. While a 17 year old man - who loosely matches the description provided by the victims - was arrested in the area at approximately 7:00, police are not certain that he was involved in the shooting.

By 8:00 this morning, LAPD officials had alerted other batei knesset in the area about the shooting, and have increased patrols around Jewish institutions. Deputy Police Chief Michel Moore has issued a general alert for the LA Jewish community.

The two injured men were transported to the hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
