  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Financial Assistance in Belz Only for Those Who Adhere To the 'Chasunah Plan' Takkanos

The precondition is being announced in all Belzer shuls throughout the country: those who do not adhere to the 'chasunah plan' restrictions, cannot receive financial assistance for weddings

In a bid to engage more families in the 'chasunah plan' takkanos, the administrators of the Belzer tzedakah organizations have decided to grant financial assistance only to families who adhere to the takkanos.

The Rebbe shlita has strongly encouraged the initiative of the takkanos, however many families have been reluctant to implement them, as they fear the reaction of others when lowering the accepted standards.

On Thursday, it was decided that all tzedakah organizations in Belz, including the 'Ahavas Chessed' institution, will not grant financial assistance to parents who are marrying off their children unless they adhere to the 'chasunah plan' takkanos.

The 'Ahavas Chessed' institution is a major tzedakah organization in Belz that offers poor families free financial consultation, helps find suitable working places, assists in repaying debts and help low-income families in breaking the vicious cycle of poverty.

Another major tzedakah organization in Belz that has joined the new initiative is the 'Mifal Halbashah', which provides each and every chassan in Belz with the necessary clothing articles he needs for the wedding, including shoes and shtreimel.

Other tzedakah organizations that have joined the initiative are the 'Agudas Machzikei Hadas' organization which offers young couples assistance in purchasing electrical appliances, the 'Gemach Hakehilah' which lends out 12,000 dollars to each mechutan, the 'Gemach Haklali' and 'Kuppas Chassanim' which gives out loans in every Belzer Yeshiva.

One of the administrators of 'Ahavas Chessed' told 'Etrog' that they are aware of the fact that many parents are reluctant to implement the new takkanos, as so many things have to be relinquished. However, now more than ever, the standards for weddings must be lowered in order to save thousands of families from total financial collapse.

The main source of encouragement for the tzedakah organizations are the satisfied parents who have already married off their children according to the takkanos, and were extremely happy with the outcome.
