  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Tragedy in the States: Chassan Dies after Falling from Fifth Floor

Reb Mordechai Berger z"l, who got married on Tuesday, fell to his death last night in New York

Yosef Feffer, NY 06/11/2009 10:24

The New York Jewish community is in a state of shock as a young chassan, Reb Mordechai Berger z"l, fell from the fifth floor and died just two days after his wedding.

Reb Mordechai, who was in the midst of the joyous week of sheva berachos, fell from the fifth floor and was fatally wounded. He was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition. He fought for his life until this morning, when he returned his soul to his Maker.

Reb Mordechai was a son of Rabbi Shmuel Begrer, yibadel l'chaim, and the new son-in-law of Rabbi Guttmann from Monsey. His family and close associates are still unable to comprehend the fact that just a few days ago they were dancing on his wedding, and now they are accompanying him on his final journey.

On Thursday morning (NY time), the chassan went up to his hotel room at the Avenue Plaza on 47th Street, after celebrating his sheva berachos. Due to unknown reasons, he fell from the balcony of his suite. He sustained serious injuries to his body, which left him in critical condition.

Motty, as his friends affectionately called him, was immediately evacuated to the hospital. When news of his hospitalization spread, people began reciting Tehillim for his speedy recovery. This morning, however, Motty passed away and left his young kallah heartbroken and inconsolable.

'Etrog' will update the readers regarding the details of the levayah.

May we hear of no more tragedies within our communities.
