  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Ma'asiyahu the Policeman

Ma'asiyahu is also a prison in Israel for white collar convicts

N. Lieberman 09/09/2009 10:00
The only policeman referred to in the Bible is Ma'asiyahu, who is mentioned in Chronicles, chapter 26, verse 11: "And Uziyahu had an army which fought, and Ye'uel the Scribe counted them and Ma'asiyahu the Policeman was one of the King's ministers."

The concept 'policeman' is mentioned several times in the Bible, but does not refer to anyone by name.

In Israel there is a prison named 'Ma'asiyahu' which is located between Lod and Ramle. The prison was established in 1956 and covers a 57 dunam area and was named 'Ma'asiyahu' after Ma'asiyahu ben Meshulam, who was one of the guards of the Temple and who is mentioned in Prophet Jeremiah chapter 35 verse 4: "And I brought them to the house of G-d to the chamber of the sons of Chanan ben Yigdalyahu, the G-dly man, which is in the chamber of the ministers above the chamber of Ma'asiyahu ben Meshulam, who guards the threshold."

The Ma'asiyahu prison serves the 'white collar criminals' and is supposed to rehabilitate its 'residents' and prevent them from coming in contact with criminals who are uninterested in moral rehabilitation. The prison has a separate department for religious inmates, complete with a synagogue and Torah lectures.
